This year could be a great time to sell your house, and here’s why. A recent survey by NerdWallet found that 15% of people are planning to buy a home this year — a record high for this survey (see graph below):

Here’s why that’s significant: the percentage of people planning to buy has been hovering between 9-11% since 2020. This recent jump shows that buyer demand is still strong — in fact, it may indicate pent-up demand that's about to flood the market.

While we likely won’t see the huge surge of buyers we saw a few years ago, this does suggest there will be more activity this year than last. Some buyers who’ve been holding off are now ready to take the leap. Whether they’re feeling more confident, have saved enough for a down payment, or simply can’t wait any longer, this is the year they plan to buy.

In fact, the same survey showed that over half (54%) of these potential buyers have already started browsing homes online. This is a clear sign that many of them will be actively looking during the spring, which is the peak homebuying season.
